For some, getting out of bed in winter can be a mountainous task by itself. Others will choose to literally head for the mountains and conquer the Stellenbosch MTB Challenge! If this sounds like you, why not mark down the weekend of 27 and 28 July in your winter diary, and let us help you create a specialised Wellness Weekend Retreat.
Get ready for the 2019 Franschhoek Bastille Festival from 13 to 14 July with these quirky facts.
Dressing in the French colours of red, blue and white is just the start of what Bastille Day 2019 has in store.
Everyone finds the French in them at the annual Bastille Festival, taking place this year on the weekend of 13 and 14 July. As Franschhoek is only a short distance from De Zeven Guest Lodge, it is the ideal opportunity to combine a festive weekend with a relaxing one.
This year’s festival will be no exception as guests can expect to be delighted by live entertainment, French-inspired fair and frivolity around every corner. Just one of those delights is the caricature artist who captures
festivalgoers’ Bastille experience in passing, and hands over a keepsake that can be marvelled at for years to
come.
Another highlight is the popular Porcupine Ridge Barrel Rolling Competition. Men, women and children gather as those with barrel rolling skills round up their teams in an effort to push their wine barrels over the finish line. Laughter and cheering can be heard from blocks away as families and friends engage in this much-loved event.
The Food & Wine Marquee at the Huguenot Monument forms the hub of the event and is the ideal spot for showing off French outfits and hobnobbing with winemakers, artists, locals and international visitors. Tickets cost R395 per person and include entry, a complimentary tasting glass, wine tasting coupons and a R20 voucher to spend on the day.
After all the excitement of the day, there’s no better place to unwind than at one of our Manor House Rooms overlooking the mountains of the Banhoek Valley with a crackling fireplace in the background.
Grab a beret and baguette and get ready for a French affair in Franschhoek.
