Dressing in the French colours of red, blue and white is just the start of what Bastille Day 2019 has in store.
It's time for the Franschhoek Literary Festival!
Woordfees may have come and gone but book lovers can get ready for the next Winelands based literary festival of the year!
A short scenic drive from De Zeven Guest Lodge will take you to the quaint French Huguenot town of Franschhoek, where book lovers, wine lovers and foodies can attend the Franschhoek Literary Festival (FLF), happening from the 17th to 19th May.
The FLF is back for its 12th year since its humble beginnings over a decade ago, when it was created by a small committee of six volunteers. Their idea was to raise funds for a community library by hosting a festival in celebration of all things local and literary. They surpassed this goal, and now the FLF Library Fund not only continues to fund the community library but also supports various local school libraries and reading programs for the children and upcoming librarians in the area!
Festival-goers can look forward to an eclectic mix of both local and international speakers, including Francoise Malby-Anthony (FR), cartoonist Zapiro (SA), chef Bertus Basson (SA), Professor Jonathan Jansen (SA), historian Simon Sebag Montefiore (UK), Fred Khumalo(SA), and Afrikaans poet Antjie Krog (SA).
Young, budding authors have the opportunity to take advantage of the FLF Children’s Book Week, which takes place in the week leading up to the main event. Over fifty children’s authors and storytellers will be visiting schools in the area, addressing children in their mother tongues to inspire and delight prospective book worms.
The program runs daily from 10 am to 8 pm, and with a line up of over 150 authors, chairs and subject matter experts, audiences can be sure of being entertained, challenged and enriched!
Tickets are selling fast and can be found on www.webtickets.co.za/flf.
Make a luxurious, literary getaway of it!
