Wine Tasting in the Banhoek Valley

Winemaking is often referred to as a ‘labour of love.’ But, like anything in life, the more you put in, the more you will get out. You don't have to know much about wine or be remotely interested in the industry to appreciate the story of powerhouse winemaker, Erika Obermeyer. We managed to sit down with her and find out more about the woman who calls De Zeven her tasting room home.

The last few months have made us appreciate more than we could ever have imagined, for no longer will we spend this year's winter months surrounded by guests as they make unforgettable memories. No longer will we casually go for a hike and look down at De Zeven from new heights, and no longer will we hear the sounds of wine glasses and "cheers" and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee permeating through our lodge. Times have changed, and while this time indoors is temporary, it has shaped a new way of thinking amongst us all as we learn to appreciate the simple moments in life.

If you paid a visit to the City of Oaks in the first week of February this year, you would have found yourself slap bang in the middle of the Harvest Parade. This colourful parade, filled with tractors, trucks, trailers and a whole lot of singing invites the people of the town to celebrate the beginning of the Harvest Season.

While still relatively undiscovered, the Banhoek Valley and Conservancy has a growing number of restaurants, wine estates, hiking and cycling trails and of course stunning viewpoints on beautiful estates.
